Beautiful Pottery in the Margaree Valley

Cape Breton Clay is created by Margaree Valley native Bell Fraser. Bell’s detailed drawings of local shellfish, flora and fauna are incorporated into her platters, bowls and plates in ways that are refreshing and bold. Located in one of the loveliest parts of the Island, this gallery sits on the property where she was born and raised. Bell’s work has been celebrated for years in publications across North America and the gallery is open most days from mid-June to late October.
“Best of Cape Breton” …Take time to visit Cape Breton Clay in the Margaree Valley, where Bell Fraser makes some of the most beautiful pottery in Canada.” Victoria magazin
“While undoubtedly modern… her work calls to mind such precedents as Victorian majolica shell plates…While there is some whimsy here, there is nothing cute: souvenir clichés are elevated to artistic subjects.” Canadian House & Home magazine
“One of the hazards of being a guidebook writer is the requirement that I look at a lot of pottery, much of it bad and almost all of it claiming to be ‘unique.’ This work, by Margaree Valley native Bell Fraser, actually IS unique. And quite wonderful…it’s worth a stop.” Frommer’s guide.
