Cabot Trail Backpackers

Cabot Trail Backpackers is located at the halfway point of the Cabot Trail in the community of Pleasant Bay, on Cape Breton Island. We offer two comfortable common areas with plenty of seating for relaxation after an adventurous day on the Cabot Trail.

Within walking distance of our accommodation, Pleasant Bay has a small general store and post office with several restaurants, gift shops, and a laundromat. Pleasant Bay is the whale watching capital of Cape Breton; there are more whales here than any other place in Nova Scotia, and whale sightings are guaranteed. Gampo Abbey is a Buddhist monastery which offers limited tours through their main quarters and grounds for all who wish to visit and learn more about their culture and way of life. The Timmons Folk Art Studio features items that have been handcrafted right in Pleasant Bay. The hiking trails in the Cape Breton Highlands National Park are some of the most popular anywhere in Nova Scotia. The Skyline trail boasts breathtaking views of the Cabot Trail and not only has beautiful scenery, but is also a common area for seeing moose and other wildlife.

The Cabot Trail Backpackers is proud to be an active affiliate hostel within the Hostelling International Canada Atlantic Region network. Our accommodations include 18 beds (an air-conditioned 10-bed, mixed-gender bunkhouse, 1 private room, and 2 family/private rooms), with three shared baths (3-piece with shower or 4-piece). Free wireless Internet, two shared kitchens, common areas and parking are available. Outside, we have a barbecue, decks, horseshoes, and a fire pit. We have secure bike storage and bike rentals. Whale watching tours can be arranged, and we are close to hiking trails in Cape Breton Highlands.

Visa and MasterCard are accepted.
